Busy is a 4 Letter Word

                                           Are you a busy bee?

                                          Are you a busy bee?

Are you busy? Are your friends busy? Is anyone not busy?

Are you tired of being busy?

Being busy equals productivity for many of us. I know that’s what I learned from an early age. If I lollygagged around, I wasn’t being productive, wasn’t getting things done, I was lazy. And of course, lazy is a four letter word to many.

I was quite busy the past couple of weeks working my part-time job at REI. We had our members reward sale for 17 days. Near the end I came home one night, plopped on the couch, and fell asleep watching tv before 8 o’clock. Too busy equals tired. Now I really love my job, the people I work with, and the people I help. Sometimes we are too busy.

The antidote to too busy is whatever you need to rest and rejuvenate. Maybe it’s more sleep, less on your to-do list for a few days, a walk outside. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as when you do it, you feel more like yourself again, more relaxed, less stressed.

You do not have to be so busy. Busy is a choice. Of course there will always be times in life when you might be busier than you’d like. This doesn’t have to beyour experience 24/7.

But people will tell me, there is SO much to do. So much that has to get done. And I challenge them on it. You are the one in charge of your life. You decide what’s on your to-do list today. You also decide what isn’t.

Your life will never be what you want it to be until you stop B-U-S-Y. If you want more time, energy, and freedom, you must start saying no. It’s that simple. No doesn’t have to mean never, though it might. It could also just be no right now.

Busy isn’t going to win you awards, it isn’t going to make you happy, it isn’t going to help you get it all done.

Don’t let busy be your friend, because she isn’t. She will drag you down every damn time.
